Hidden amongst the buildings of Zürich’s Kreis 5 is one of the cities most best kept café secrets, Auer & Co. It sits within the Impact Hub Zurich, where young entrepreneurs, creative minds and technical gurus come together to share ideas, tech talks and, of course, coffee!
Since opening it’s doors in late 2015, this place has been buzzing with great coffee at the hands of great Baristas. It’s no wonder, as those who are in the Zürich coffee scene know that this place is a coffee project of Bear Brothers & Cow team Benjamin Prager and Kai Keong. As a regular to this little jewel, I thought it was about time that I shared this place with the world. Will the espresso here make an impact, or will it be one in a hub? Let’s find out… Continue reading →
Speciality Coffee freaks of Switzerland will already be familiar with the crew at Benzin & Koffein. Since 2014, they have been spoiling their coffee loving visitors with amazing coffee direct from their roastery, Gipfelstürmer Kaffee. Located in Zurich’s hip Kreis 3, this is the perfect place for an espresso pit-stop during a Sunday afternoon run. We all know that an espresso before a run gives you the energy you need to reach your running goal. Would the B&K espresso be the benzin to get me to my 12km goal, or would I just trot to a bitter end? I threw on my Asic trainers, switched on Runkeeper and ran to find out.. Continue reading →
The news is spreading fast – Kiwi sighting on one of Zürich’s most famous alternative streets, Langstrasse! Cafe New Zealand opened its doors in April and since opening, has been causing quite a stir. Ok – this is not difficult on Langstrasse.
As with most new cafes, I thought I would give Sam – the Cafe NZ man – a few weeks to settle in before hitting him with my visit. As an Aussie-Italian, I was curious of what the coffee experience would be like. Italians love their espresso as much as Aussies love their Flat Whites, and Sam serves both. Can a Kiwi really serve a grand espresso and creamy Flat White (which we all know is Australian and is now hipper than hip!)??
I took the bus down good ol’ Langstrasse, hopped off at Militar-Langstrasse, blew off a few wolf whistles and walked in….
Ah Milchbar! Zürich missed you in the many months that you were closed for renovations. So nice to take the walk down from Parade Platz, through that cute little ‘piazza’ Kappelerhof to get to you. I remember my first visit back in Novemer 2012, just as Coffee Me was starting. Now you are back, ready to impress us with your coffee experience. Yeah! AND excited to see the Aussie Flat White on the menu!!
To mark us meeting again, I am writing this review ‘live’ at Milchbar. (and after drinking 3 espressi – or espressos in Aussie English)
I have taken a very comfortable seat upstairs, with a perfect view of the La Marzocco machine and the street outside. Would the espresso be as great as the first time many months ago.. or even better? Let’s find out… Continue reading →
With the Sochi Winter Olympics in full swing, talk on the street is of Dario Cologna, my cousin Julia Mancuso (ha!), and the awesome, rocking Snowboarding events. What better time than now to experience espressostyle at Sport Bar in Zürich’s Kreis 4. In snowboarding slang, word has it that they bust a great espresso here. Would this Snow Bunny discovers an epic espresso, or would it be wack? Trekking through an off-season Zürich thunderstorm, I shook the water from my umbrella and went in to find out.. A lunchtime stroll in Kreis 4 and look what pops up! A new little espresso bar with a very unusual name. Bear Brothers and Cow opened its doors a little over 1 month ago. Insight from the Zürich Barista scene is that I should give it a try.. and so I did! Would this espresso leave me high like a Koala bear? I popped in to give it a try.
Atmosphere:Simple. In true pop-up café style, this place is simple. No fancy tables, no fancy lights. The focus as you enter is on the simple yet cool bar, and the sparkling La Marzocco which is ready to do its stuff. Continue reading →
Ah Zürich! We love you in the Summertime! An easy stroll along Limmatquai, with beautiful views of this little big city, and dreams of that grande holiday, that grande amore or that grande espresso! Then you actually find it, GRANDE!!! (If you scream this word with a massive smile on your face, you may get what I mean). It actually exists! Am I dreaming? Or will this funky little café bar be home to my first real grand espresso in what seems like eternity? They say hope is the last thing to die, and with this thought and my smile, I went in to give it a try… Continue reading →
