Al Leone is nested betweens the banks and exclusive shops on Zürich’s Bahnhofstrasse. A beautiful, elegant building which welcomes local bankers and visitors alike. Is the espresso here as strong as a lion in name only? Wearing jeans and having the natural ‘I just got off the train from Milan look’, I decided to give it a try.
Atmosphere: Hollywood. If Martin Scorsese was looking for a location in Zürich to film the next smooth bar or cafe scene, this would be it. Even 007 could make an apperance here. It has style, elegance and a well used black and white theme. I was a little concerned that my casual look would get me escorted out the door, however I was safe. A very busy place with friendly staff, where business men go to catch up on the latest news while enjoying a coffee. Ladies, there is room enough for us too!
Espresso rating: 3.5 out of 5
The espresso I had a Al Leone this time around was good. Maybe they changed the brand of coffee as it was a little bitter than I remembered it and also a little longer. Still, it was quite smooth. Nice touch with the little cantucci and the cream and sugar already on the table.
Price: 5.00CHF – so far, the most expensive espresso in town!
Free water: With espresso, yes.
Kid friendly: To my surprise, there was a baby when I was there! However, I am undecided as to whether I would flag it as kid friendly.

Until the next cup…
